Red Deer has had transit service dating back to 1946 when transit service was provided by Chisholm Bus Service. This lasted until August 31, 1956 when City Bus Lines (Sorenson Bus Lines) operated the service. The city of Red Deer took over operation of the public transit system on September 1, 1966 and from then until now it has been known under two names: Red Deer Transit System and Red Deer Transit.
